Cooking for Charity
Shannon Webb, Client Services Coordinator at The Escape was awarded Star Baker in the Great Science Park Bake-off.
Shannon, who won afternoon tea for two at Chilworth Manor Hotel for her Vegan Ginger & Biscoff cake, said: “I adore The Great British Bake-Off, so I was super excited to take part in this competition. And of course it was great to be able to support and raise money for Jane Scarth House too! I started baking with my Nanna when I was kid and so my love for baking started young. My favourite thing to bake is anything vegan! I like to make sure that everyone can enjoy baked goods. I'll be taking my best friend Callum to the afternoon tea because he loves cake equally, if not more, than me.”
The event, held on 21st July, was great fun for all involved but importantly, it raised £250 for Southampton Science Park’s Charity of the Year, Jane Scarth House – Romsey Support Centre.
Jane Scarth House is an independent charity providing emotional and practical assistance to anyone whose life is affected by cancer. The charity’s team is well regarded amongst medical professionals and receives referrals from hospitals and nursing teams in Southampton, Winchester, Basingstoke and Salisbury. They have assisted thousands of local people and their families throughout their cancer journey from diagnosis, throughout treatment and beyond. Yet, they receive no government funding, instead relying heavily on donations to deliver this vital support to our local community.
Our thanks go to the team at Chilworth Manor Hotel for kindly donating a fantastic prize to help us raise funds for this special cause.
