Sustainable Travel In Action
Following on from a site-wide occupant survey, Southampton Science Park has published a Green Travel Plan; a comprehensive resource to help residents make informed choices about the way they travel to and from the Park.
Created in collaboration with planning experts, PJA, it contains information about a range of travel options, as well as links to further information and support to enable increased use of sustainable travel modes.
Robin Chave, CEO of the Science Park, said: “Our Green Travel Plan supports the Science Park’s net zero ambitions and wider legislative frameworks set out by Test Valley Borough Council and by government In preparing this publication, we canvassed our colleagues around the Park to ensure that it is fully updated to be relevant to current occupier preferences and needs. Our hope is that this strategic approach, and the detailed information provided, will encourage and facilitate the uptake of sustainable and active modes of travel to enhance the health and wellbeing of our community inside and outside of the Park.”
Southampton Science Park’s Green Travel Plan aims to:
- Reduce the number of trips to the site being undertaken by single occupancy car journeys.
- Increase the uptake of sustainable modes of transport and in particular active travel modes.
- Support the Science Park in delivering its climate change and sustainability ambitions.
- Manage future travel demand to allow for the sustainable growth of the Science Park.
The Plan supports the UK Government’s commitment to reduce net emissions of greenhouse gases by 100% relative to 1990 levels by 2050, recognising that transport and travel are two key elements that make up an individual’s carbon footprint.
