Sun Shines on Science Park Summer Social
Rain or shine, the great British BBQ shall never be beaten! Luckily for us, this year’s reluctant summer sun made a magical appearance for the Southampton Science Park community who came out in force for our charity summer barbecue.
We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors who contributed to this event. Big thanks to:
- Food sponsor, Meadows Contracting
- Drinks sponsor, Spectrum IT
- Ice Cream sponsor, Shakespeare Martineau
We’d also like to thank the many companies from across the Science Park network that generously contributed raffle prizes so that we could fundraise for our chosen charity: Chilworth Manor Hotel, Coffee Bean Company, Currie & Brown, Curve Therapeutics, First Stop Catering Supplies, Greenzest Commercial Cleaning, ITdev, Lambert Smith Hampton, Legacy GLM Group, Medina Food Services, nine23, Oat Services, Paris Smith, PT Solutions, Rossair, Spectrum IT, Three Wheeling Pizza, Tuck Box, Uniq Technology, SKY B2B, and Windracers.
The generosity of these companies meant that all proceeds from sales of BBQ tickets and raffle tickets could be donated to this year’s charity, Wonderseekers. We’re still totting up but it looks like the generous Science Park community raised £4,500 for this wonder-ful charity!
Wonderseekers is on a mission to create a fairer world where all children can treasure science and are ready and able to improve lives and protect and heal our planet. Its purpose is to raise children’s aspirations and confidence when it comes to big topics such as climate change, as well as promoting diversity and inclusion, so that all children have the ambition and freedom to improve their own lives, the lives of others and ultimately life on Earth. Laura Holmes from the charity said,
"We're delighted the Science Park chose to support Wonderseekers. As the charity behind the nearby and popular Winchester Science Centre, we're on a mission to create a more equitable world where all children are equipped and empowered with critical science enquiry skills and agency to protect and heal our planet.
“It was great to attend the park's Summer BBQ and see so many companies joining and raising such an incredible amount of money that will support young children across Hampshire access science. A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising such a successful event, including the contributions from sponsors and donors. We look forward to building our relationship with the Science Park.”
This year’s BBQ also marked the launch of SOCONNECT, with goodies and prizes for everyone who downloaded the brand new app on the day. SOCONNECT is a personal digital guide to life at Southampton Science Park, designed to help our whole community prosper.
