BBQing in the rain

Croquet on the sunken garden lawn it may not have been, but September’s unexpected heavy rain couldn’t sink Southampton Science Park’s annual community BBQ! 

Around 200 residents from businesses across the Park ditched their shorts and hoisted their umbrellas to dive into Axis, the Science Park’s conference centre, for an impromptu venue switch. 

And we’re very glad they did. Not only was there some great conversation and merriment but a fantastic £1,500 was raised for our Charity of the Year: Jane Scarth House through ticket sales. 

Science Park Operations Manager, Stuart Perry, said: “It’s been a long time since we’ve been able to host such a large gathering and it was great to see so many of us coming together today. Thank you to everyone who bought a ticket and helped us raise funds for Jane Scarth House. 

“I’d also particularly like to thank Spectrum IT and Meadows Contracting Services for their generosity in sponsoring drinks and food, respectively. Their contributions to the event made sure that our spirits weren’t dampened!”
