Achieving recognition
The region’s top tech companies have been revealed as the finalists for the first ever South Coast Tech Awards (SCTA) are announced. One third of the shortlist feature companies that have experienced growth at Southampton Science Park.
A fantastic example of a Science Park success story, Tonic Analytics, has been shortlisted for two awards: South Coast Tech Company and the Science & Technology award. Judges noted its “very impressive growth and profitability using proprietary data analytics technology with applications in a wide range of industry sectors”.
Five of the companies named are current or previous Catalyst business accelerator programme companies. AudioScenic’s immersive 3D sound technology and Liberatii’s ingenious data translation technology are finalists for the Tech Start-Up award. Graduates from the last cohort, Forty1 Kitesurfing and Signly, have been shortlisted in the Marine Tech and South Coast Tech Company categories respectively.
Another former Catalyst company experiencing significant growth, Utonomy, is in the running for the Science & Technology award, recognised for its “impressive and innovative technology for reducing CO2 emissions and methane leaks in the gas industry that has important environmental benefits”.
Further commendations for Science Park companies were announced as: Ilika Technologies, whose battery technology caught the eye of judges for the Science & Technology award, and ITDev, shortlisted in the category of Tech Employer. Judges noted the company’s “very strong business culture based around flexible working and wellness with support from managers at the top of the organisation, who encourage and support staff to upskill.”
Southampton Science Park is proud to sponsor of the Tech Start-Up award in this inaugural year.
Chief Executive Dr Robin Chave commented: “There’s excellent alignment between the South Coast Tech Awards and what we do here at the Science Park, where we are focused on the commercialisation of technology and the encouragement of start- up companies.
Encouraging technology and entrepreneurship across the region at every opportunity is very important as the south coast has a huge potential for technological and innovative growth. The South Coast Tech Awards will, I’m sure, contribute to that potential and boosting the region further.”
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 5 December at the Hilton at the Ageas Bowl. The evening’s host will be technology presenter and computer scientist Spencer Kelly, who has reported on tech issues from around the world for over 20 years.
