Wessex AHSN takes international lead

Science Park tenant, Wessex Academic Health Science Network (Wessex AHSN), has taken the lead in determining how the Wessex region can increase its participation in international healthcare provision with the launch of the Wessex International Healthcare Consortia. Supported by the Chamber of Commerce and Healthcare UK’s international expertise, its aim is to play a significant and proactive role in attracting healthcare staff from overseas.
With an ageing population, the UK’s healthcare system is increasingly looking abroad to meet changing needs. Overseas students and staff are important to both universities and NHS providers in Wessex, with universities already supporting strategic partnerships and conducting research in countries as diverse as Australia, Singapore, Cambodia, China and Uzbekistan.
“The size of the international healthcare market has increased dramatically,” explained Rachel Dominey, Wessex AHSN’s Assistant Director of Wealth & Enterprise. “There are currently over £13 billion active healthcare related opportunities and we’re establishing how our region can respond via the new Wessex International Healthcare Consortia.”
