Science Park Supports Apprenticeships
Tue 9th February 2016
Representatives from the University of Southampton Science Park met recently with Eastleigh College and Eastleigh Borough Council to discuss the benefits of apprenticeships for businesses, in-line with upcoming Government priorities. They were joined by several tenant companies including Chilworth Technology Critical Software Technologies, IMechE and Tekever.
The aim was to put adult apprenticeships firmly on local business’s agendas and to help them realise the potential benefits that apprentices can bring to their operations.
Peter Birkett, CEO of Southampton Science Park said: “We are always looking for new ways to support our tenants and we recognise that apprenticeships could play an important role in helping them to fill positions while upskilling their next generation workforce. The national skills shortage is well documented so it was useful to hear from one of the area’s leading colleges about the different types of apprenticeships available and the changes we can expect as a result of the new Government initiatives. I hope that the meeting will foster productive partnerships for Science Park tenants moving forward.”
Eastleigh College is the third largest college provider of adult apprenticeships in the UK with around 9,000 apprentices currently studying there.
