March was an important month in the Science Park’s history with the unveiling of the long awaited childcare nursery -a purpose built facility near the entrance of the Park, which has opened its doors to its first children. The Nursery, which has space for 64 youngsters between 4 months and pre-school, is a state-of-the-art design which is the result of a partnership between the Science Park and Yellow Dot, a well established local provider of nursery education.
In addition to the nursery, the launch of the Innovation Centre was a significant milestone which recognised the importance of encouraging innovation in the prevailing economic climate. This exciting development, which was the culmination of various new business support initiatives and a re-branding exercise, re-emphasised the Science Park’s commitment to supporting budding entrepreneurs and early stage businesses.
The launch also marked the improvements to the newly extended coffee shop and the introduction of the Science Park Network events programme. This is a new initiative which aims to bring businesses together through networking and high quality, industry specific events.
Alan Walker; Chairman of Southampton Science Park commented: “At the Science Park, it is very important that we see the growth of a strong research based community and the recent changes have helped us work towards that. The re-brand was designed more effectively to communicate the link between the University and the Science Park, which allows organisations based on the Park to benefit from the latest advances in academic research.”
Peter Birkett CEO commented: “Innovation is a major factor for economic growth, and it is important that as a centre of excellence, we support the high-tech companies based on the Science Park. In the last six months we’ve invested heavily in the facilities on the Park to create a location where companies are keen to base their businesses. Our aim is to create a thriving community which encourages entrepreneurial businesses and supports the development of innovative technology.”
