Benham Unit 5 build begins
Sat 24th October 2015
The recent announcement of plans for a new office building on the prestigious Benham Campus is a major development for the University of Southampton Science Park. Unit 5 is being built by local firm Amiri, a company with an excellent track-record of completing high profile projects in the region. The construction team moved on-site at the end of the summer and immediately began work reprofiling the ground in readiness for establishing the foundations.
Peter Birkett, CEO of Southampton Science Park, commented: “Benham Unit 5 will provide urgently needed grow-on space for the expanding businesses on the Park, as well as accommodating new tenants attracted to the science and technology community here.”
He continued: “The sustained growth experienced by many companies in the high tech sectors has put considerable pressure on our existing buildings. Having been at full capacity for the past year, finally launching this building programme is very exciting as it marks a major milestone in our planned expansion.”
As a speculative construction, Benham Unit 5 is the only new development of its kind in the Solent region. The building will reflect the Science Park’s commitment to sustainability, incorporating a ‘smart’ building management system and low carbon features throughout. It will also include state-of-the-art meeting facilities, a further on-site coffee shop and 30,600 sq ft of Grade A office space.
The project is due to complete in September 2016 and enquiries from companies interested in moving in should be directed to the Science Park office at the contact address on the back page.
