Leading Edge Digital Connectivity set for Southampton Science Park

Tue 24th January 2012

At the end of last year Southampton Science Park embarked on a strategic review of its information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and made the important decision to move to an open-access network across the Park, where tenants will be able to choose the ICT services that are right for them from a range of internet service providers (ISP).

The installation and management of the new infrastructure has been contracted to CC Engineering Limited, which has recently been engaged in installing an ICT network in one of Europe’s tallest buildings. They have installed over 4km of fibre-optic cable and state-of-the-art switching gear on the Park that will enable them to operate and manage the entire network remotely.

Negotiations are on-going with a number of ISPs who are keen to provide services across the new network. Once these negotiations are completed, companies based at the Science Park will be able to benefit from a diverse choice of services.

Operations Director at Southampton Science Park, Robin Chave, said “We are very excited about the new ICT network. We recognise how important a fast and secure network is to the high tech businesses on the Park, and the rapid growth of ‘cloud’ based services makes such a network a fundamental requirement for many companies. We believe that this project will place Southampton Science Park at the leading edge of digital connectivity for the next decade.”
